Ulnar gutter splint

Supports the ring and little fingers, hand, and wrist together to protect the ulnar side of the hand after a boxer's fracture or similar injury.

thermoplasticvelcro

Commonly used for

  • Stable boxer's fracture (5th metacarpal neck) per clinician
  • Soft-tissue injury along the ulnar side of the hand
  • Post-reduction protection of the 4th/5th metacarpals

Cautions

  • Increasing numbness or tingling in the ring or little finger
  • Skin pressure over the bony prominences
  • Hidden displacement — always confirm reduction with imaging first

Typical wear

Typically worn full time for 3–4 weeks then weaned, exactly as a clinician directs.

Care

Keep dry. Check skin daily under the straps. Loosen if swelling increases.

Cost (USD)

$30–$200. Off-the-shelf is cheapest; custom thermoplastic costs more.

How to get one

  • Urgent care or ER (initial)
  • Hand therapist (custom)
  • Orthotics supplier

Prescription: Often required. Always paired with imaging confirmation; do not self-fit after a real injury.
